SeniorYears

Years 10 - 12Senior Education

We offer a supportive learning environment that empowers students to excel academically, develop critical thinking skills, and grow spiritually, as they prepare to become confident and responsible adults.

Curriculum Opportunities

The Senior Years at St Joseph’s School provide a diverse range of curriculum opportunities aimed at fostering the unique talents and potential of each student. Our guiding principle is to ensure that every student reaches their maximum potential by recognising and utilising their individual gifts and talents.

We strongly encourage and support students in making appropriate subject choices based on their demonstrated propensity and capability. This personalised approach helps students explore and develop their interests, setting the foundation for future academic and career pathways.

Tertiary Education & Subject Choices

Students are offered the opportunity to study a broad range of subjects, paving the way for exploration into tertiary education avenues such as university, TAFE, trade, or employment. The completion of the SACE Stage 1 Personal Learning Plan (PLP) in Year 10 is a significant milestone, providing students with their initial exposure to gaining SACE points and initiating their career planning process.

In Year 11, students engage in the Stage 2 Research Project, cultivating essential research skills, independent learning, and time management. This project sets the stage for success in their final year of school and prepares them for the challenges of higher education or the workforce.

Vocational Education & Training (VET) Integration

At St Joseph’s School, students have the opportunity to integrate Vocational Education and Training courses into their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE). Our commitment to providing practical skills is exemplified through programs like Certificate II and partial Certificate III in Doorways to Construction at the St Joseph the Worker Trades Skills Centre.

We continuously explore new and exciting opportunities in VET, expanding our offerings in collaboration with local schools, TAFE, and service providers. Courses such as Aquaculture, Fitness, Hospitality, Aviation, Business, and Tourism are among the options available to students, broadening their skill set and enhancing their employability.

Future Pathway Counselling

Subject counselling is a crucial component of our support system, assisting students in outlining and understanding the diverse future pathways available to them. Our senior school has a remarkable success rate in helping students achieve their goals, evident in our high SACE completion rate, first-round university placements, and full-time employment offers.

Extracurricular Activities

In addition to formal studies, students in the Senior Years at St Joseph’s School have the opportunity to participate in various extra-curricular activities, enriching their overall educational experience.

Activities include religious retreats, leadership roles in a Camp for Children with a Disability, work experience, sports events like football and netball carnivals, knockout sports, Sports Day, the Spencer Gulf Athletics Carnival, the School Musical, and the annual Ski Trip.

These activities are designed to complement formal studies, providing students with a holistic and well-rounded educational journey that goes beyond the traditional classroom setting.
