Little SaintsPlaygroup

Little Saints Playgroup fosters positive relationships and learning through play. We enjoy this opportunity to get to know families at this special time of children’s early development.

Little Saints Playgroup at St Joseph’s is part of the SPiCE Program (Supported Playgroups in Catholic Education), implementing best practice to ensure that your child’s time at Playgroup is fun, engaging, supportive, educational and inclusive.

Everyday experiences such as reading, talking, exploring and interacting socially enjoying the company of others, provide an essential foundation for growth.

Our weekly program engages preschool children 0-5 years in activities to develop:

  • Fine and Gross Motor Skills
  • Arts and Craft
  • Nature Play
  • Imaginative Play

We encourage active participation in story time and singing.

Parents remain throughout the Playgroup and are actively involved in their child’s experience. We ask that families bring a healthy snack for their child during the session. The fee for Little Saints Playgroup is $20 per term.

Junior JoeysProgram

A play-based learning environment where children can familiarise themselves with the school, staff, and facilities while nurturing their social skills, adaptability, and creativity through exploration and interaction with their peers.

Junior Joeys is a 10 week program offered to families who have accepted a place in Reception. The program will commence later in the year, date to be advised.

Session times will be dependent on enrolment numbers, however, we will do our best to avoid children missing kindy sessions.

Each weekly session will be coordinated by a qualified Early Years Teacher and supported by an Education Support Officer. Parents leave their children in a similar way they do at Kindy.

Benefits of Junior Joeys

  • Engaging in activities to support their social and emotional wellbeing.
  • A range of opportunities to further develop their fine and gross motor skills.
  • Activities that promote pre-reading, writing and numeracy skills through hands-on experience.
  • Building familiarity and confidence within the school environment and St Joseph’s community.

Sessions & Fee

The programme is run on a user-pays basis with a fee of $200 for 10 sessions. Whilst we encourage you to participate, for those that don’t, there will be two transition sessions provided for children commencing school with us.

ReceptionTransition

For those children still at kindergarten, our staff will visit their kindergarten, where time is spent observing and talking with them. They also meet with the Kindergarten teachers to cover specific detail about each new student.

We encourage families of Reception students to enrol their child in the Junior Joeys Programme to support their successful transition into schooling at St Joseph's. Following this 10 week programme, all new Reception students are invited to two additional Transition Visits in the latter half of Term 4 to meet teachers and gather with their peers beginning school the following January.

Junior PrimaryReception - Year 2

Step into our Junior Primary years, where a warm embrace awaits every child. It’s a place where friendships flourish, and the journey of lifelong learning commences, setting the stage for a promising future.

Active and Contemporary Learning

From Reception to Year 2, children learn through play, activity, and explicit teaching, nurturing their literacy and numeracy skills as the building blocks for various curriculum areas. Our outdoor learning areas are vibrant spaces, fostering engagement with the world and encouraging collaboration, making the process of discovery and knowledge enjoyable.

Contemporary learning is at the heart of our approach, deeply aligned with the Early Years Framework and the Australian Curriculum. We believe in equipping students with modern skills and knowledge, ensuring they are prepared for the challenges of today and the opportunities of tomorrow.

Connecting Through Buddy Bonds

At our school, every child finds a sense of belonging through our unique buddy system. From the heartwarming ‘shake and take’ ceremony with Year 12 buddies to the deep connections with fellow students, we foster a welcoming community.

Supporting Individual Growth and Healthy Living

At our school, we prioritise both individual growth and healthy living. Additional small group and whole classroom support from Key Teachers, as well as trained Educational Support Officers, ensures individualised teaching and attention to fine and gross motor skill development. Meanwhile, in our commitment to holistic wellbeing, Physical Education is more than just a subject; it’s a lifestyle. We emphasise the importance of staying active and making smart, healthy choices.

Partnership with Families

Our partnership with families begins with Little Saints Playgroup and is nurtured through our new Junior Joeys Transition Program before students begin their formal schooling in Reception. Together we build on your child’s experiences to foster a love of learning in a positive, happy environment where wellbeing is fundamental to success.
