Through dedicated care and attention, the boarding staff have established a strong supportive environment where each person is welcomed into a larger, nurturing family.
St Joe’s offers a home away from home environment and has given our children opportunities to make wonderful friends and special memories whilst becoming more independent.
DINY – Parent
It is the special responsibility of the Director of Boarding and the boarding house staff to oversee the welfare of the boarders. Protocols have been implemented to ensure students’ safety, and established approaches promote effective communication among Boarding House staff, students, and parents.
The boarding house staff is a group of highly experienced, caring, and dedicated individuals who excel at forming strong and meaningful relationships with the boarders. Yvette Agars (Director of Boarding) is highly experienced and lives right on-site. Additionally, our dedicated supervisors diligently attend to the daily needs of our boarders, ensuring they receive the necessary support in their home away from home.

Meet ourBoarding Staff
Boarding has been a cherished tradition at our school on the EP for many decades and continues to be an integral part of our identity.
Boarding LifeHear from Our Boarders
Welcome to an inside look at life in our boarding house, where students from diverse backgrounds come together to form a vibrant and supportive community. Listen to personal stories and insights from our boarders as they share their experiences, challenges, and the friendships they’ve built during their time with us.
I love that St Joe’s Boarding House is modern, fresh, and has single rooms for every boarder. It’s reassuring knowing my child has their own space when needed, yet can also hang out with other boarders in the pods or common areas.

AccommodationComfortable Spaces
Our Boarding House consists of four ‘pods’. The two smaller pods have six rooms, with the two larger pods each having twelve rooms. Each room is furnished with a single bed, bedside table wardrobe, study desk, chair and pinboard. Our boarders can decorate their rooms (within reason) to create a comfortable space to live. Each room also has a reverse cycle air conditioner.
Within each Pod there are living and kitchen areas. Each kitchen includes a small fridge, microwave, and kettle.
Laundry is washed for the boarders twice a week. Students can access the laundry should the need arise.

Food & DiningHome Style Delights
Our onsite chef ‘Caz’ ensures Boarders are provided with a wide variety of nutritious meals and snacks, and that any dietary needs are catered for.
Each Wednesday Boarders are provided with a hot breakfast. Fresh fruit, biscuits and cakes are always readily available for our Boarders. The students share breakfast and dinner together in the dining area every day as one large family.
Living at St Joseph’s Boarding House has allowed me to build lasting friendships in a supportive community. It’s provided me with a structured environment where I can successfully learn to do my very best and develop essential life skills.

Study SessionsFocused Learning
Years 7-11 Boarders attend supervised study every evening from Monday to Thursday in the school library. These sessions are supervised by school staff. Year 12s are permitted to undertake private study in their rooms during this time or they may choose to attend study in the library. ALL students hand in their mobile phones during this time unless prior arrangements have been made with the Director.
Boarding at St Joseph’s has instilled excellent study habits in my child, something I have to admit wouldn’t have been the case at home.

ActivitiesSocial Life & Beyond
A variety of activities are held throughout the year, including our beginning of the year beach tea, themed dinners, scavenger hunts and quiz nights. Boarders also enjoy watching major sporting events (e.g. The Showdown) together as a community.
Boarders can play for local sporting teams, however, depending on transport, they may choose to continue playing at home for their local team.
The boarding house has provided our child with structure for learning, as well as the freedom to pursue interests and hobbies outside of school. She has formed strong friendships that we believe will endure beyond her time at the boarding house. We are very grateful for the experience!
