We value the generous assistance of volunteers, who help ensure the smooth and efficient running of our canteen.
If you are a parent or grandparent of our school and can offer occasional or regular time in the canteen we would love to hear from you. Please head over to the volunteering page and touch base with us.
A current Catholic Education Police Clearance is required for all volunteers. For those who do not have a current Catholic Education Police Clearance, but are interested in volunteering in our canteen, we are happy to arrange to process a clearance for you at no cost.
Healthy Eating
We encourage all children to have a healthy diet. This means unprocessed foods low in sugar, salt and fat.
Crunch & Sip is around 10:00am. Students are required to bring a healthy snack such as a piece of fruit to eat at this time.
Some helpful suggestions in providing a healthy lunch box are:
- Dairy foods (yoghurt or cheese). Milks can be purchased from the Canteen.
- Fruit (apples bananas, strawberries, mandarins, oranges, grapes, small fruit salads).
- Dried fruit (apricots, sultanas, apple)
- Vegetables (carrot or celery sticks)
- Boiled eggs
- Sandwiches / Rolls
Please label all lunch boxes, their lids and any drink containers. This needs to be done regularly as labels wear off easily.
If there is any difficulty in peeling fruit, such as an orange, please cut and place in a small container, enabling easy access for your child.
Sometimes a very well wrapped lunch can cause little inexperienced fingers some difficulty, resulting in an uneaten lunch. At St Joseph’s we encourage ‘whole foods’ (unprocessed foods) in reusable containers.
Packaging/wrappers will be placed in the lunchbox to take home. In support of environmental sustainability, we discourage the use of unnecessary plastic. Re-usable containers reduce waste and help keep our school clean.
