Assessment and Reporting

At St Joseph's School we pride ourselves on providing a high level of quality teaching and learning to all students. Part of this process includes having students complete a wide variety of both formative (non-graded) and summative (graded) assessment tasks. Utilising these task as evidence, we make informed judgements about their progress, in relation to both the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards and the SACE Performance Standards, across a wide variety of subjects.

The Australian Curriculum guidelines for reporting on student progress, include providing students with a grade from A to E. Each grade band has the following elaboration:

  • A Band Demonstrating excellent achievement of what is expected at this level
  • B Band Demonstrating good achievement of what is expected at this level
  • C Band Demonstrating satisfactory achievement of what is expected at this level
  • D Band Demonstrating partial achievement of what is expected at this level
  • E Band Demonstrating minimal achievement of what is expected at this level

A key component of this assessment process includes reporting on student progress to parents and families. Teachers compile these reports based on student achievement throughout the year. A copy of our current reporting cycle can be seen below.
