Homework
Early and Primary Years
In the Primary School (R-6) parents are encouraged to spend time each week-night either listening to or reading to their child. The amount of time will vary according to the ability, difficulty of the material, interest and general disposition of the child. Reading at home is a valuable home activity, through which parents can help to enhance and support school programs by the development of a love of reading for pleasure.
Reading each night is encouraged throughout your child’s schooling, not only in the Junior Primary years. Homework activities could include:
- Reading
- Sight words
- Spelling
- Completing unfinished classroom work
- Surveys
- Research
- Discussion with Parents
Children are not required to spend more than 1/2 hour a night on Homework in the Primary years.
Middle Years
A homework timetable is developed by Pastoral Care Coordinators in conjunction with subject teachers at the beginning of the year for each year level. Parents, students and staff are informed of this in writing. Time spent on homework gradually increased in the middle years with a focus on research, independent learning and completing learning tasks.
Senior Years
A homework timetable is developed by Pastoral Care Coordinators in conjunction with subject teachers at the beginning of the year for each year level. Parents, students and staff are informed of this in writing.
The recommended amount of time for study for each year level:

8 | 60 mins | 60 mins |
9 | 70 mins | 70 mins |

Homework Tips for Parents
Homework is a contract that is entered into by the teacher and the student.
The role of parents in relation to homework is to provide support and encouragement and to take an interest in what work is being done.
Homework is noted on SEQTA, our Learning Management System, and parents can easily monitor expectations and deadlines.
Homework Club and Math Tutoring is offered from Monday—Thursday from 3.30pm - 4.30pm in the Resource Centre. This is a great opportunity for students to get extra help or supervised study time during the week.
Homework Club
The Homework Club is a place students can go after school to complete their work and/or get some extra help from teachers.
